Winter Quarter 2011, I took a Foreign Correspondence class at Ohio University. For this class, we were required to pick a country and write two articles about it. I chose Rwanda and had to call people from that country, circumvent the language barrier, and interview them about the story idea that I developed through hours of research. These articles were then published on UPIU.com. My first story, “Fuel briquettes help reduce charcoal usage,” received a third place award in the 2011 student international multimedia news story contest organized by the
International Communication Division of The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. I will be traveling to St. Louis, Missouri in August to accept my award at their annual, national convention.
